Chichele Presidential Lodge
Lodge style Historic grandeur with modern luxury
Unrivaled panoramic views
Originally built for Dr. Kenneth Kaunda (Zambia’s first democratically elected president) in 1972, Chichele Presidential Lodge has been completely rebuilt and reimagined. Perched atop a hill in the South Luangwa National Park, this lodge offers breathtaking 360-degree views over wildlife-rich floodplains, rivers, and forests. Its elevated position ensures spectacular vistas, making it one of the most iconic safari destinations in Zambia. Combining its historic colonial charm with modern luxuries, the lodge provides an extraordinary safari experience. Relax on the expansive deck, enjoy a private plunge pool, or take in the mesmerizing views with a fresh cup of coffee or a sundowner in hand. Then, venture into the wild on a game drive or walking safari to encounter the park’s abundant wildlife, including zebra, giraffe, elephants, and a variety of predators.
The ten luxury suites (including a Family Retreat with a safari lounge connecting two rooms) offer world-class comfort. Each suite is designed to embrace natural light and provide seamless indoor-outdoor living. The private terraces overlook the lush valley, inviting you to relax in refined comfort. Sumptuous linens, massive beds, and stylish décor inspired by Chichele’s heritage ensure an opulent retreat. En-suite bathrooms include his-and-hers washbasins, a spacious bath, and a private outdoor shower. Modern amenities such as air conditioning, WiFi, and a minibar blend seamlessly with the lodge’s classic charm. Step into the Safari Lounge, unwind by the fireplace, or enjoy Chef Roy’s legendary Chichele eggs benedict in the grand dining room. The infinity lap pool and yoga deck add to the indulgence, ensuring relaxation between game excursions.
Activities at Chichele Presidential Lodge
A game drive with the excellent guides at Chichele will prove to you why the game viewing in this park is second to none. For added adventure, take a sundowner and try an evening drive, when hyena, galago (also known as bush baby), and various predators are at their most active. You’ll get close enough for some fantastic photos, especially of zebra and antelope, since the plains game are unfazed by the lights of your vehicle. Morning drives are equally fantastic, often with sightings of lions and leopards, two safari favorites. And how delightful to stop mid-drive for a snack of coffee and cookies. If you’d rather put those hiking shoes to good use, the walking safaris are a real treat for those guests 12 and over. Experienced and enthusiastic guides will make sure you’re enthralled (and very safe!) as you spot some of the most fascinating signs of the bush that simply can’t be seen from a vehicle. And when you return from your game viewing, by car or by foot, you’re sure to enjoy a dip in the pool to cool off. And who knows, you might be joined by some of the local wildlife who like to pop by the pool for a quick drink. However you organise your adventures, you’ll leave Chichele with memories to last a lifetime. Or, until the next time you visit, of course.

Tripadvisor comments Chichele Presidential Lodge
We have just spent 4 days at Chichele Presidential lodge celebrating my husband's 50th birthday with family and friends. We simply could not have chosen a better location for this celebration. Killian and his staff went out of their way to make this weekend exceptional. The lodge is magnificent, the rooms are luxurious, the food was great. Our safari guides Chris and Alec were exceptional - from Leopard's to Lions to civet cats - we saw it all. Thank you for making this a perfect weekend. We will definitely be back.

Although we have been on safari before, this was the best of all. Killian and his staff made our stay very enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble. The guides John and Ernest were first class. The restaurant staff were very attentive and the meals served each day were wonderful. A first class holiday.
