Kapamba Bushcamp

Lodge style Dreams by the river

Kapamba River views

Set in a remote corner in the southern region of the South Luangwa National Park, Kapamba bushcamp nestles on the banks of the shallow, spring-fed Kapamba River in a peaceful, secluded area. Kapamba is surrounded by some of the park’s richest wildlife with fabulous views over the watercourse. Your entire stay here will feel peaceful: the staff will treat you as if you are the most important person in the world, and you will find plenty of moments during your stay to sit yourself down and gaze down the majestic river, a true treat for the eyes. These relaxing moments go hand in hand with thrilling wildlife encounters: lions hunting for their lunch, a leopard chasing an impala, an elephant family on their way to a river bath – it could all happen in front of your private verandah, or even when you are taking a shower with views over the river.

Kamamba Bushcamp has four spacious and comfortable river-facing open-fronted thatch and screen guest chalets. They boast en-suite bathrooms that include hot and cold running water, a double-size indulgent sunken stone bath as well as twin showers, all perfectly positioned to enjoy river views chalets. The chalets also include mosquito nets and a relaxing verandah. Clever wrought-iron shutters are drawn each evening so that the sights and sounds of the African night can be enjoyed without worrying about unwanted visitors. The central bar and dining area is thatched and positioned under a huddle of matumi and sausage trees, which in turn leads to a wide deck with superb views, also used for dining. The camp is run on solar power with lighting by solar and paraffin. Limited battery charging is possible.

Activities at Kapamba Bushcamp

From Kapamba you can explore the rich diversity of the surrounding area on guided morning and afternoon walks or day and night game drives. Make sure you opt in for the safari walks: you will get much more up close and personal with the environment and learn and see things you won’t be able to experience during a drive. (Plus: all walks come with a tea and cookie stop, a great experience in the middle of the bush!) Each of the experienced guides at this bushcamp are committed to the area and its original inhabitants (read: the animals). You will be surprised by how many of the animals in the area they are familiar with and who they follow daily, always careful not to interfere with nature. During a game drive or walk, they will go that extra mile to find rare wild dogs or others on your bucket list. Together with their knowledge and amazing bush stories, every activity is memorable and special. The scenic drives along the river in the late afternoon are an especially magical experience. The river itself can also be used to cool your legs as you wade through the crystal waters, or enjoy a scenic riverside sundowner. Bare feet in the water, cold cocktail in your hand, watching masses of carmine bee eaters – Africa won’t get much better than this.

Tripadvisor comments Kapamba Bushcamp

We had two fantastic days in Kapamba, The location was spectacular with wonderful views over the river. It was hard to believe we were in the middle of the Zambian bush given the exceptional quality of service food and accommodation. We could not have wished for more. The walking safaris were why we were there and they did not disappoint. We learnt and saw so much. Thank you to all.

Another gem from the Bushcamp Company. The most 'luxurious' of the camps we stayed at, with wonderful giant pool like baths, boasting stunning view across the riverbed. Wonderful food- expecially out incredible 'bush pizza' experience, and superb enthusiastic guidance from the charming and knowledgeable Fannuel, who was running the camp on our arrival- we didn't even realise that poor Julius was unwell until he returned! We loved it here, along with all our other accomodation in the Luangwa Park, and would recommend it without hesitation.
