Robin's House

Lodge style Historic charm

Relaxing seclusion

Robin's House, originally the home of the region’s safari pioneers, Robin and Jo Pope, is an exclusive use house perfectly situated on the banks of the bustling Luangwa River in the South Luangwa National Park. Ideal for young families or a group of friends seeking a more indulgent type of safari, the house has a beautiful view of the river, and is comfortably shaded by giant ebony and jackalberry trees. Set upstream and well apart from the Robin Pope Safaris Nkwali Camp, Robin’s House is often graced by a cooling breeze off the river which comes through the large picture windows. During the green season, you might take a boating trip down the Luangwa for a special view of the wildlife there, and in the drier months you’ll enjoy the big game who come to the river to bathe and drink. The house’s prime location ensures a rich wildlife experience at any time of year.

Historic Robin’s House has been thoughtfully and meticulously converted for your comfort. The two bedrooms (one double and one triple) both have en-suite facilities with the luxury of both a shower and bathtub. With comfortable beds dressed with attractive, understated textiles, and draped in mosquito netting for your comfort, you’ll find that the accommodations make it incredibly easy to relax. The main living area provides a cool retreat from the African midday heat and is handsomely furnished with comfortable chairs and plush sofa. There is a shaded outdoor verandah, where you can enjoy relaxing meals with your travel companions, or lose yourself in that book you’ve been meaning to read. You’ll relish a dip into the stunning private plunge pool after a busy day of safari activities, and refresh yourself for an evening of sundowners and beautiful views.

The house comes with a dedicated team of staff that includes a talented chef, experienced guide and a vehicle for your convenience. Come home from a game drive to the smell of fresh baked cookies in the air. And you’re sure to enjoy the delicious meals customized to your dietary preferences. The host and staff ensure the house is tidy and the environment is relaxing, so you can focus on making memories with your family or friends. Robin’s House has thought of everything you could need for an incredibly satisfying safari experience. All that’s missing is you!

Activities at Robin's House

Wildlife start their day in the early morning hours, and you will, too. Enjoy a hot coffee and slip on those comfortable shoes... your tailor-made walking safari starts just after dawn so you have the best possible wildlife experience. Led by an experienced guide and an armed National Park scout for your safety, you will discover a surprising level of detail and insight into the bush. Your guides’ knowledge will give you intense connection with the environment around you. Game drives are another popular choice for viewing and interacting with the game in the area. From the comfort of a Toyota Landcruiser, ride through the park’s game management areas and spot elephants, lions, hippos, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and countless species of indigenous birds. Night drives have the added benefit of more extensive predator sightings, as they’re more active in the late hours of the day. Village tours are an excellent way to immerse yourself more deeply in the local culture, and Robin’s House offers this holistic view of the valley with a visit to Kawaza Village and their school. You will also have an opportunity to pick up a souvenir for the friends back home at Tribal Textiles, whose locally produced items draw their inspiration from the unique Zambian surroundings.

Tripadvisor comments Robin's House

The Luangwa Valley is not necessarily the easiest place to take 3 young children (6-10 years) - but Robin's House at Nkwali is a great option. It is separate from the main lodge and you have your own dedicated guide/driver and vehicle so your timetable is at your own discretion. There is a small plunge pool as well far enough away from the main camp not to worry about disturbing other guests. Service is attentive but not intrusive. The house is plenty spacious and well designed for the heat in September - both indoors and outdoors were good seating areas.

We had a great stay at Robin's House, Nkwali Camp. The house has everything you need. The staff were very attentive yet unobtrusive. Our young girls loved their stay, they had even created activity books for the children. Every need was catered for, including my daughter's wheat allergy. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a complete break, a bit of privacy and, of course, a safari.
